Audio Technica ATH-ANC7B Active Noise-Cancelling Closed-Back Headphones

March 9th, 2010 - 04:25
Disclosure: I have tried all these on an airplane. I’m not an audiophile. The noise canceling is the most important attribute for me.
Stock Exchange: All three are rather hard and stiff.
1) Bose-the smaller, low profile, space for an iPod, accessories as well.
2) Sennheiser-square shape, low profile, but not much space for anything else, in the case.
3) Audio-Technica Nice big event if you want to do extraordinary things (Nintendo DS, iPod, etc).
Build Quality:
1) Sennheiser-one can say this is built very well. Strong plastic components good, thick rope. Top notch. You feel as if you get something really high quality.
2) Audio-Technica construction of a piece of Nice seems durable.
3) Bose-If this were a Sanyo logo on the side, I would not have flinched. How can a $ 300 be so incredibly cheap.
Size:
1) Bose-far above the ears go, are pretty small.
2) Audio-Technica medium term.
3) Sennheiser “It’s great. There is no doubt, but that store flat.
Comfort:
1) Sennheiser-Very comfortable , fit almost any ear size. hold on for hours.
2) Bose also comfortable. I have not experienced the highs, “” discomfort.
3) Audio-Technica, is quite satisfactory . An opening larger than first model AT.
Audio:
1) Sennheiser-In fact, they had at home, only to hear parts of songs I never heard before. Amazing. My 10yr old music collection seemed brand new.
2) Audio-Technica Well-balanced, good sound.
3) Bose-Great sound, but very heavy on the bass. I listen very rap and pop, so it was slightly annoying. I finally had to turn my settings high on my iPod to balance the sound.
Features: < , br /> 1) Sennheiser nice rope, push to talk button (NC closed temporarily and sounds that are good for the interruption of an aircraft).
2) Bose / Audio-Technica only basis. Bose simply a switch.
Price:
1) Audio-Technica $ 150 to $ 225 depending on how you behave.
2) Sennheiser – $ 200 to $ 275
3) Bose-Hard to find a $ 300 +.
Noise Cancellation:
1) Bose-no question here, beating the other two. Best Noise-Canceling.
2) Audio-Technica, Good Noise Cancellation.
3) Sennheiser-Not sure what happened here. Incredible sound, noise canceling satisfactory.
Abstract:
I was finally Bose because I only use them to fly and Sennheiser (for because I loved them) let me down in section Canceling Headphones. Sennheiser has had by far the most superior sound, but the Bose Noise Cancellation was night and day. Bose is very bad for a product of $ 300 + was a disappointment.
The final verdict:
Audio-Technica best balance of value for money
Sennheiser-Best Sound and comfort

I played with the idea of obtaining a set of headphones active noise for a while ‘. Both my wife and I have to fly over our work, so I can really justify this cost. Although it has not been directly tested anything else, I read reviews on both Amazon and other places for a set of headphones. The predecessor of these brands of Audio Technica QuietPoint ATH-ANC7 Active Noise-Canceling Headphones are generally high in reviews, and even seemed favored over venerable BOSE QuietComfort models, low-loss audio at various reviews gave me a break.
see these supposedly new and improved version has recently come on the market, I decided groped their luck with the hope that this would be detrimental to what is still a good product.
I have not been exposed to ‘the original to know how bad “sound leakage” problem is, but that’s something I wanted to test for’. I can say that when I have my iPod to elbow to full (almost to a painful level) and the ANC on, it is quite easy for someone outside to hear what is playing, especially when there is not much noise in the area . But in a more “real world” test, I had my wife listen to them, while we made a trip with children in our minivan. Although not to the levels of van aerial generate a decent noise, especially at high speed and asphalt noisy. In this case, I had her turn up the volume so loud that it could carry comfortably. I managed to barely hear anything from the headphones, but not to the point that I could not say what he hears. The test was sufficient to allay my concerns about the loss “Sound” problem as a practical matter.
My wife really enjoyed with headphones on our road trip and found them very effective and damping on the road and engine noise. For the majority of cases can happen on our trips are not at the same time, but I can already tell you that if we travel together, I would add a second home in our possession. Not as good as some of my devotees heaphones ear for music, especially with the ANC, is the sound quality is still more than acceptable and reasonable compromise in order to unite the ANC capacity. Which is typical for technology, most of the sound reduction at frequencies lower reaches, with the highest level of voice frequencies are much less attentuation. These will knock down low-level engine rumblings, but not quiet conversation.
When the package in general, is very simple and elegant. The battery compartment takes a single AAA battery and is easy to rotate the receiver right to display and replace the battery. Even if it snaps, it’s pretty solid, I do not think there will be a problem with accidentally open the battery cover. The headphones use a standard 3 to 5 millimeters stereo line, and the package comes with both a card (good to have a player in hand or on a belt clip) and a longer cable would be suitable to connect a set of desktop speakers, which moves on the desktop. There are also 1 / 4 “adapters for use with a typical home stereo / AVR, as the two typical airline plug on several fronts. The case has a zip pocket inside to keep all these, together with ‘ Addition of AAA batteries (Energizer also included one). The case is fairly compact, which is good for use with a transfer of the packet. Despite this, there is enough space to simply take my iPod 5G 60 GB inside. There is still room for something a bit ‘bigger and quite a few’ longer, so I suspect that the iPod Touch or Zune fits seamlessly. The case itself is quite strong with heavy cuts in rear, front and sides to keep the shape issue.
When I made my purchase, the price difference between new and old model was in fact the same thing. Even as of this writing, there are only a net difference of $ 10. With this in mind, if you watched the previous generation, I see no reason to have more. This unit contains is worth at least two years’ of improvements over the original and is in a very competitive price, especially compared with Bose and some other advanced headphones ANC.

*** NOTE: Updated date at the bottom of the review ***
The details of the review described below, but I decided to write a brief summary of the people are only concerned with the overall message of this review. < ; / br>
Abstract:
Audio-Technica ATH-ANC7b Active Noise headphones are well made and comes with accessories of Nice. The noise canceling feature works very well, however, makes significant spread of the sound of these headphones unusable in an office / cafeteria setting. The earphones are also much poorer sound quality than I expected for headphones in this price range. I would like very much to potential buyers to really evaluate whether they can tolerate very significant dispersion of sound (ie, do you care about everyone around you at work listening to what you listening?). Further information and explanations below.
more detailed examination:
After several weeks of research on Canceling Headphones on the internet, I finally decided to buy Audio Technica ATH – Active Noise ANC7b Headphones. This is the new version of the ATH-ANC7 headphones series which generally have pretty good reviews. As a “Texan” mentioned in his review of the above, the general comments about these headphones is home to most are:
price of 1) much better than the Bose QuietComfort
2) The sound is as good
Bose QuietComfort 3) The sound is good – maybe a little ‘worse than the Bose QuietComfort, but not $ 100 poorer
4) Some guests complained of losses sound or bleed through listening to music.
I bought these headphones to the attention of point 4 above, and I hope that the dispersion of the sound was not as bad as some made out to be. In fact, examination of the “Texan” on this page to help my concern for the dispersion of sound to the rest.
Once I have the headphones, I unpacked them and gave them a whirl. Read the sections below for my impressions.
Packaging / Accessories: 10/10
The headphones are well packaged in a sturdy carrying case. This case is very beautiful and happy as you could hope for large over-ear headphones like these. You get a nice headphone cables and adapters all seem to be gold plated and all fit well into a small zipper pouch on the inside of the bag. You also get a AAA battery that is very easy to install in his right ear headphones.
Cap Construction: 10/10
headset itself seems very well done. The pavilions are made of foam very beautiful, with soft leather material covering them. There is a padded area when the headphones rest on top of his head made of the same material. The design looks very nice and the overall look of these headphones will make you feel motivated to buy them. It is also very nice that the cord is detachable on both sides (player and earphones right) so that it can be easily replaced if damaged or exposed wires. The earcups swivel plate so that they can be called into question and this is very good. The headphones feel very comfortable to wear and fits easily into the ears headphones and be fully covered. Although soft jersey inside the pavilions covering the speakers is very nice and better than most over the ear headphones that I owned.
Noise (w / no music playback): 10/10
; This feature works well. Launches a switch located on the outside of the left ear and a blue LED lights up to say that the noise reduction is activated. They do a great job of canceling ambient noise, while all audio is gone, everything is very quiet and subdued. If you’re only going to use them without the music that helps you to work or concentrate, I would definitely recommend them. I gave a 10/10 in that, while not perfect, they were what I expected to get 85% of the noise to cancel.
The sound quality (w / noise canceling off): 2 / 10
When listening to music through headphones with noise cancellation off are highly disordered. It sounds almost as if you were listening to music underwater. Minima are very confused together and would rather unenjoyable to listen to these headphones as this. I think the reason for this is done, is that most of the bottom disappears when the noise cancellation is activated (see below). It ‘almost as if to compensate for this. Although it is nice that you can listen without a battery (unlike the Bose), the sound quality is very bad as this and there is no clarity in the music. I’m not an audiophile snobs who would not be happy without thousands of dollars in equipment is. He had poor sound quality with noise canceling off and someone would have recognized in my mind.
The sound quality (w / noise canceling on): 5 / 10
When noise canceling activated confuse the music is lifted and the music becomes much clearer. Although it sounds much better to listen without noise-canceling for me is definitely lacking in the lower part of the music. It almost seems as if the noise cancel feature eliminates any low-end music. The base has no punch at all, and in general the music is too high and no real power. Also, try not to listen to music, where I would not be happy if the headphones were rattling with the bass. Just for reference, I did all my listening tests with the Beatles album Abbey Road. Furthermore, it seems to activate the noise-canceling increases the volume too much. At first I was not sure if this was only the effect of other ambient noise is cut off or not, but I went to the quietest place I found in my house to do a test. Without music, noise canceling made little difference, because the room was so quiet already. But with the music, the volume pumped definitely stronger when the noise cancellation was active. This can explain something to the sound of losses also (see below). Overall, my $ 50 Sony in-ear headphones, which I intend to replace these are much better sound quality of these. I was very disappointed with the sound, because in my opinion too much money you should have a decent sound quality. I did not expect to be blown out of the water, but was very weak.
Losses Sound: 0 / 10
This is a big, big problem. These headphones have great sound leakage at moderate volumes. I do not know if it’s something different from the headphone ‘A Texan “was for his examination and the ones I have, but the dispersion of sound is very low on these. Once again, listen to Abbey Road only on a moderate level I am totally unable to use these headphones in my office. I work in a taxi and even at low volume, I was told that the music is clearly audible to persons around me. Basically, I do not feel at all comfortable to use these headphones for listening to music in my office, a cafe, or anywhere remotely quiet. It seems that the speakers are to my laptop and I play on a volume moderately quiet for the whole office to hear. I work as a researcher and also listen to my headphones in the lab. In my office in the lab is rather noisy with a lot of equipment running at full-time and a loss of environmental noise was barely audible to humans working near me. So if you’re just going to use in a noisy environment, you can work for you. Furthermore, the loss of sound much worse when noise canceling is turned on. I do not know if this is just for the increase in volume that exists when the noise cancellation is activated, but there are obviously more healthy loss when noise canceling is turned on. Ultimately, this loss of sound correct serious problem and is definitely a deal breaker for me. I chose to ignore some of the reviews say that the dispersion of sound was poor and it was my mistake. It ‘a really big problem, and you should be aware of. It will not be able to listen on an open plan office, but they all listen to your music. I’m not exaggerating.
Conclusion:
I was very pleased with these headphones and it seemed the best option out there for ultra-expensive Bose Noise Canceling Headphones. I have not used the Bose so do not try to compare (which may have the same problem, as I know), I’d say these headphones made me very disappointed. The sound quality is pretty bad, in my opinion, but I could live with that, were it not for the dispersion sound. I can not use them at work or study with a coffee, so basically I can not use it for my purposes. I have to go back and try something else. If you intend to use them in a noisy environment than can be the right choice for you, but otherwise I would recommend to think long and hard about noise leakage is a problem for you.
**** UPDATE: 10.2.2009 ****< br /> As I said in comments on this review, I tried the Bose QC headphones 15 in a local shop Bose shortly after writing this review. In my personal opinion, the Bose headphones were a total of better than the headphones (but should be entitled to $ 100 more!). They do not have problems with loss of sound I had with these ATH-ANC7b and overall I thought it was better sound quality. But they are expensive and play music with noise cancellation off (a problem for some).
In any event, easily brought my frustration with sound in general my headphones to watch the non – relatively inexpensive-to-noise headphones. I just wanted to see how the sound quality of these over their counterparts in noise canceling. I am very pleased that I took the time to do it. It turns out that for my needs, a good set of headphones sealed in full size (= closed headphones that do not leak any sound and block sound from entering, full-size = above the ear) was the best solution for me. The sound quality improved with a $ 150 or $ 200 without the Noise Canceling Headphones on them given a lot to me. The details and the true beauty of music really jumped out at me, and the overall sound quality has improved a lot during the ATH-ANC7b for me. I have tried many brands / models $ 100 – $ 250, and finally decided on a pair of Audio Technica ATH-M50s headphones. This is $ 150, has a good sound quality and isolate a lot of noise for what I wanted to use them. There are many good reviews on Amazon you can read.
Now, this is not the best solution for everyone. It can be really, really need headphones noise, and if so, ignore this suggestion. But if you’re like me and are not 100% sure if you need noise canceling or not, please take the time to try some non-sealed full-size headphones noise compare. For the my use (the study, blocking of noise at work), this was the perfect solution. I was never really intended to use them without listening to music and I wanted a good sound quality and isolation if I wanted spend so much for headphones. This conclusion is obviously important in the end. You pay for the noise-canceling technology, not in relative economic headphones noise should have a better sound (I know this is a duh … But I can not understand until I tried it side by side.) Anyway, I just wanted to update the way I decided to go down. Do yourself a favor and try a pair (you can do this at Guitar Center music stores other) does not nice-noise headphones and see how you like them compared to the cancellation of noise. In the end what matters what you like and what you think. Audio Products Headphones are so subjective, so take the reviews with a pinch of salt and remember that if you can, you should always try yourself and decide what you think. Good luck with headphones look and I hope that all my experience to find the right pair of headphones to help me find a few couples who love each other.

Overall I rate these headphones OK – 3 out of 5 stars. My comparison is only with Bose QuietComforts 2.3 and 15 I bought the Audio-Tech ICA for air travel. Recently I attended a couple of flights and took the headphones. To verify the loss of audio, I asked the passenger next to advise me when the sound was discovered when I raised the volume. For me it was state level for the ear-discomfort strong before they said anything. I was disappointed that the noise cancellation does not “remove” the more the noise of jet engine. To validate, I walked up and down the corridor to test the distance between the wing mounted engines. Moreover, as other reviewers have mentioned, to get the best sound quality (headphone is connected to my laptop to watch movies), noise canceling is turned-on. The fit, finish, feel the headphones are all good. In the end I returned the headphones and the plan is to pay the premium for the Bose QuietComfort 15

When I tried to choose between the Bose QC2 and this was a bit ‘hard to find someone who had done a side-by-side comparison. So here it is, can we hope future customers will benefit from this review.
So I ended up buying both Bose QC2 for me, and Audio Technica ATH-ANC7B for his wife (sorry wifey). I am a bit ‘of an audiophile, so the first thing I did for both was to make a side-by-side test.
In a way, I like the Bose better for audio and Comfort and ATH best for the price and the cancellation of noise.
The benefits of Bose QC2:
– the sound is fuller and warmer
; I heard Josh Groban , and you can really hear his voice Alto clear, full and warm. ATH, on the other hand, sounds a bit ‘more difficult with the code a bit’ far, and therefore not as warm and full.
–
More natural low ATH is strong enough, and treble is also very clear. But in general, Bose sound more natural and covers wider range of low and medium, with a little ‘less significant in the high. For Audiophile out there, a good way to think the difference is to compare the sound when you have an equalizer to Rock / Disco c. when you leave the equalizer off.
Also note that my wife could not see the difference in sound quality between the two, although on a side-by-side test. You are not an audiophile myself. So I think the difference in the sound to be very small.
– More comfortable for the ears
QC2 padding is softer. The voltage is also smaller in the ear (spring lighter). The size can also make a difference. In short, the total ears feel more at ease. Can I wear QC2 for several hours without seeing.
Benefits of ATH ANC7B:
– best price (of course)
– noise reduction is slightly improved. I have not tried this in a super noisy, but I had the dishwasher running nearby. Without music, quieter ATH overall sound. When music is on, it is difficult to tell the difference.
Another thing that I like so much of ATH is the dispersion of sound. I can hear the music, when my wife wears – it can be annoying for fellow passengers.
I also have Bose QC15. ‘ll Write more when I have a few days.
